Migrant deportations to increase, says EU chief

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen suggested the EU could learn from Italy’s policy of processing migrants in Albania, as EU leaders discussed migration at a summit.

Italy recently transferred 16 migrants to Albania under a new agreement, though some were sent back due to medical or age concerns.

Von der Leyen also proposed new legislation to increase migrant deportations, noting only 20% of irregular migrants are currently returned, the BBC has reported.
