Poor Execution Leads To The Cowboys Blowout

I investigated and found an astounding number of instances where a lack of attention to details were obvious, especially in the second quarter, in fact here are a list of them, and I won’t go over all of them but let’s start with this 3rd down play at the top of the second quarter, and this one honestly almost makes me sick.

We send brooks in motion which reveals the lions are in man coverage and so when we snap the ball we have a bunch of 3 receivers to the right here. Brooks runs a drag route, but his man is being washed up the field with Tolbert’s go route. Meanwhile the corner and safety double CeeDee and so Brooks is unguarded. On the other side of the ball Schoonmaker has been executing a block and release, but his route runs right into Brooks. Now, I don't know know the play call but I have to think that Schoonmaker didn’t pay attention to the details here. Dak’s hesitancy here is also worth noting. But really to me Schoonmaker disrupts what could have been a big play or maybe even a touchdown because there is nobody even close to Brooks if Schoonmaker runs an out or shallow drag.

But let’s be honest here. Details are only a part of the story. The Cowboys are missing 4 starting defensive players and two of their backups. That means 36% of your defense is backups and 1 out of every 5 defenders is a backups backup.

Nevertheless details are the self prescribed issue so let’s move to successive plays that happened on 2nd and third down late in the first half.

Here Dak tries to get the ball to CeeDee, but they make two different reads. I’m assuming he’s got an option route and Dak sees the safety over the top and the corner with inside leverage so he expects CeeDee to cut this route out to the right and I’m not exactly sure what CeeDee sees that makes him think he can win vertically and I guess Dak also doesn’t understand judging by these words for Lamb.

The very next play is 3rd and 6 and Tolbert runs an out but he runs it at 4 yards instead of 6, which I could understand if the corner was playing shallow but he’s got enough room to run this route two yards deeper. But those two yards, that little detail, causes a fourth down, and in case that leads to a turnover on downs.

Now on the thumbnail of this video you may have or may have not noticed a Bible verse which is 1 Chronicles 19:13.

To give this context the commander of the Israelite army, Joab, has found himself in a situation where he has an enemy to his north and an enemy to his south. He devises a plan and then he tells his brother.

Joab is a complicated figure and so maybe we shouldn’t base our life off of his words but

I love this idea that we plan, we may even put forth tremendous effort in an area we are highly skilled at, but God is in control and I love the faith that Joab displays with his life on the line when says may the Lord do what seems good to him.
