On Day 252 of sobriety, I listened to VOCES8 perform William Byrd's "Ne Irascaris Domine" and "Civitas Sancti Tui". Before diving into the music, I talked about how I've been feeling stressed lately. Funny enough, one of the things stressing me out is the dogs! I grew up surrounded by dogs in Sweden, with my parents running a dog kennel, and despite promising myself not to have any pets later in life, here I am in Sri Lanka with three dogs and a cat. Life has a sense of humor, that's for sure!

The music, though—it brought me a sense of calm and peace I didn’t expect. While I didn't understand the lyrics, the beauty of it was in how it connected with my good side. Many songs I listen to seem to pull me into my pain, but this piece of choral music brought out the positive things I've done in life, reminding me of the beauty of that reflection. A very powerful and soothing experience.
