Catering to system rather than loyalty to player has cost ETSU two football games in 2024

In 1997, Paul Hamilton came from the Air Force Academy. Everyone said he'd run the option and though he did sometimes, he also took advantage of quarterback Todd Wells skills. Wells then immediately threw for 377 yards and put up 51 points in ETSU's last victory against Appalachian State and finished as the Southern Conference's all-time leader in total yards. If new head coach Tre Lamb had done the same as Hamilton, done the right thing and built around an incumbent starter instead of cutting his throat to play a system, ETSU would likely be the story of the FCS this year and a national championship contender instead of still waiting for their first victory against a winning team in three years.
