Consequences of hyperglycemia in acute moments...
-of course it is a problem when glucose in blood is
chronically elevated
-but, trouble also when glucose spikes acutely
-there are consequences to this that are pathogenic
When glucose chronically elevated: T2D
-lots of urine production
-overwhelming kidneys' ability to absorb
the excess glucose

Business unit of the kidney: glumerulus, many capillaries
encapsulated in the Bowman's Capsule
-as blood moves through, captures contents of blood,
moves it into kidney tubules, eventually excreted in urine
-unless it is reqbsorbed
When glucose gets filtered at gluerulus, it gets reabsorbed
-no glucose gets into urine
But, if so much glucose in blood,
tubules are overwhelmed, cannot bring
all glucose back into blood, stays in
kidney

This has oncotic effect, pulling more & more water with it...
-water comes from blood
-consequence is that person urinates a lot
If you pull in a lot of water, dumping it into urine, originating
in blood stream [plasma is mostly water]; it is getting lost
-blood volume goes down
-BP does down: hypotension
risk of blacking out when standing
