Asheville Apocalypse 2024 - Part 4: The Only Way Out is Through MariDewTube

One week after Hurricane Helene hit Asheville with a vengeance, there is hope. Thanks to the hard work of local contractor Ryan Stone, our Toyota 4Runner Shanti is ready to bust us out of Asheville and take us back home to Michigan.

Our usual route (I-40 to the West) was still closed due to storm damage, so we had to re-route and head East and then North through North Carolina, up to Virginia, West Virginia and Ohio. I finally talked to my mom and sisters once I got out of town far enough to pick up a cell signal, and they all cried when they heard my voice. My mom suggested that I pause and reflect on the significance of this epic experience, and given the chaotic, fight or flight week that we had just been through, I decided to take some time to process what just happened…and take my time on the roadtrip home.
