I can't think of a better way for a young kid to learn this kind of multiplication than big giant rectangles and squares made of toy bricks. It's hands-on, and for the most part, toy bricks are universally enjoyed by young kids. So, get some off brand toy bricks, or the real deal, and pull them out as your child learns multiplication!
