Wrong Way Vehicle Leads to Head On Collision, GOODRICH, October 15, 2024 - At approximately 10:30 am on October 15, 2024, the driver of a black 2011 Ford Escape was south-bound on US-59 just north of the north end of Loop 393. The driver of the Ford was suddenly slammed head on by a silver 2013 Chevy Cruz that was driving north-bound on the south-bound side of 59. According to a witness who was involved in the accident, the Chevy Cruz almost slammed into him, he steered right to avoid the head on and the Chevy Cruz bounced off of the trailer that he was pulling and slammed instead into the south-bound Ford Escape. The names of the drivers have not yet been released. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit, Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Officer Jack Mueller with the Livingston Police Department, and Corporal Ramey Bass with the Texas Highway Patrol. A landing zone was set up on 59 and the driver of the Chevy Cruz was flown in what appeared to be critical condition. The driver and passengers of the Ford Escape were transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital. The driver of the pickup pulling a trailer was physically okay. Traffic on the north-bound side of 59 was completely blocked for flight operations and the south-bound side was completely blocked for investigation and cleanup. The Chevy Cruz was recovered by Smith Towing out of Livingston while the Ford Escape was recovered by Pop's Wrecker Service out of Livingston. We will update this story with more information as soon as it's made available. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.
