20240516 180402 Tux May You Be Forever Healthy and Happy, My Dearest Friend

I am devastated to report that during my eight day absence away from #Tux that his health has deteriorated very rapidly. It was obvious the moment I sent eyes on him the first meeting upon my return that he was ill. I don't have the emotional strength to go into any of the details, but I expect that the next few days will be his last.

#Tux's chronic, likely severe diabetic condition, appears to afford him little ability to fight off additional attacks on his system.

I had no other choice that to offer him the opportunity to spend his last days in peace with me, not matter what the consequences that his presence will afflict on my home and my personal emotional shortcomings. I wish that I could do more for him that I can, but my financial situation can't withstand it at this time, nor do I think that the trajectory of his life would chance for more than a few weeks or month.

Given his young age, thought to be two or three years old, it seems clear that he's either lost the genetic lottery or the environment in which he lived, while socially very supportive during the time he lived in the homeless encampment, exposed him to an environmental insult that he couldn't withstand. It's possible that it could be an inbreeding issue, some sort of environmental exposure, or something else that I can't grasp.

If you are the type of person that prays, please pray for the rest of his time with us. My deep sadness far, far exceeds any embarrassment that I feel about how anyone may judge my ability to process this relationship in a more balanced way. He's the most special, kind being that I've known for a very long time, and certainly for a cat. My own two sibling cats that both passed away after more than seventeen years that I totally adored both missed the something that was magical with #Tux. He is so kind and friendly to everyone he ever met -- cat, dog and human alike. A thoroughly unique soul, one that I never was gracious enough to even aspire to.

Please hold your most hopeful thoughts for the remainder of his days, tragically cut short by the unfairness of events under so little of our control.
