Operator killed, more than 20 hurt in NJ Transit train crash, officials say

A fallen tree caused a crash on a New Jersey Transit River Line train in Mansfield, NJ, killing the train operator and injuring 23 passengers.

The crash occurred early Monday morning when the train struck the tree on the tracks. Governor Phil Murphy confirmed the operator’s death and an investigation is underway.

Passengers described the tree as “gigantic” and reported seeing others with injuries, including open wounds.

River Line service between Florence and Trenton was suspended, with substitute buses provided, NBC 10 Philadelphia has reported.
