The National Association of Realtors (NAR) has been embroiled in multiple lawsuits related to real estate commission practices. One significant case concluded with a $1.8 billion judgment, where a federal jury in Missouri ruled that NAR, along with large brokerages, conspired to maintain high commission rates, impacting both buyers and sellers. This case, known as the Sitzer/Burnett lawsuit, argued that the traditional practice of sellers paying commissions for both their own and the buyer’s agents was unfair, resulting in inflated costs
