Oak Hill Church of Christ preaching minister, Randy Sterling, delivers a message on the importance of trusting in God and stepping out in faith to do good works.

Fear of failure is a universally understood feeling. Common sense dictates that unless we have a reasonable chance of success, and unless the risks are manageable, we should simply walk away.

While this might keep us from buying a bridge in Brooklyn, or spending our life savings in a casino, it can also, unfortunately, keep us from excelling where God is concerned.

The Bible is full of stories featuring God's use of the unimportant, the unlikely, and the unexpected. These Biblical heroes are known less for their personal might and more for their faith in God and trust in His promises. God provides a path for each of His children, but they still need to walk on it. God does not ask for people to engage in grand, sweeping acts. He asks for them to trust Him.

This week, consider what small things you might be able to do. Don't worry about the big result; that's God's share. Instead, step out in faith and do those small things you're able to do. Jesus explains that the mustard seed is a tiny seed of little value on its own, but it can grow into a very large plant. Focus on planting your seed, and let God handle the growing.
