Prof. Włodzimierz Jarmundowicz
Head of the Neurosurgery Clinic, Jan Mikulicz-Radecki University Clinical Hospital in Wrocław.
He graduated from the Military Medical Academy in Łódź and knew right away that he wanted to become a surgeon. During his studies, he decided to pursue neurosurgery. In 1988, he began working at the military hospital in Wrocław, and in 1999 at the Academic Clinical Hospital (currently the University Clinical Hospital).
Prof. Włodzimierz Jarmundowicz's team, for the first time in the world, transplanted glial cells from the olfactory bulb in the brain to a patient with a torn spinal cord. Thanks to the innovative operation, the patient, paralyzed from the waist down, began to walk.
