"Coming here was a big mistake for you." IFC Films & Shudder have revealed the first official trailer for a wacky new horror comedy called Get Away, which just premiered at Fantastic Fest to some rave reviews. The film is written by Nick Frost and directed by the Dutch horror comedy filmmaker Steffen Haars (of New Kids and one half of Krazy House). A family's vacation to a remote getaway takes an unexpected turn when they discover the island they're on is inhabited by a serial killer. But who exactly is it? The Smith family arrives on a tiny Swedish island called Svälta where they get into all kinds of trouble. Fantastic Fest adds: "Fueled with dark humor, mean jokes, and outrageous scenes, Get Away will mislead you all the way to an unexpected, twisted ending. So come on board and enjoy the trip to Svälta!" Yes this sounds like a fun one! Starring Nick Frost, Aisling Bea, Sebastian Croft, Maisie Ayres, and Eero Milonoff. So it's like an even kookier comedy spin on Midsommar? Yep I'm definitely going to be watching - looks proper funny.

Here's the first official trailer for Steffen Haars' horror film Get Away, direct from IFC's YouTube:

Looking forward to a vacation on the small Swedish island of Svälta, the Smith family is unsettled by the unfriendly mainlanders who advise them to avoid the island at all costs, especially during the Karantan festival. But the 4-member family is in deep need of some time away & stubbornly decides to take the ferry anyway. On the island, the locals are rather rude & unwelcoming, and their behavior suggests that some big event is about to happen. Is it a cult? Is there a sacrifice in the works? Seemingly unbothered by so much discourtesy and drama, the family enjoys a swim in the sea, treks in the woods, and, oh, the silent isolation... which turns out to be a pretty perfect situation for the Smiths, who have special plans of their own. Get Away is directed by Dutch comedy filmmaker Steffen Haars, of the films New Kids Turbo New Kids Nitro, and tons of other wacky projects previously; he's also one half of the duo behind Krazy House. The screenplay is written by Nick Frost. Produced by Lee Kim, John Hegeman, Nick Frost, Aram Tertzakian, Nick Spicer, Maxime Cottray. This just premiered at Fantastic Fest 2024 and plays the Sitges Film Festival next. IFC Films debuts Get Away in select US theaters starting December 6th, 2024 this fall. Look good?

The film was to be directed by filmmaking duo Steffen Haars and Flip van der Kuil, with producers from Wayward Entertainment, Resolute Films, Film Service Finland, and XYZ Films.[1] In November 2023, the film wrapped production in Tampere, Finland. Described as a comedic slasher movie, Get Away from director Steffen Haars (Krazy House) has been acquired by IFC Films and Shudder, and the trailer has arrived this week.

The film was previously titled Svalta, and it’s hitting theaters from IFC Films on December 6, 2024. From what we understand, Get Away will slash into Shudder in 2025.

Written by and starring Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz), the film follows a family on their summer vacation to a remote island where they discover a serial killer is on the loose. Unfortunately for them the locals have no interest in helping the stranded family.

Frost said in a statement this week, “I’m thrilled Get Away has found a home at IFC Films and Shudder, alongside the constant support and collaboration with Wayward Entertainment and the gang at XYZ. It’s such a good fit and a real relief knowing that Get Away is in such safe hands. I can’t wait for you to finally see it in theaters!”

“I am super hyped that Get Away found its perfect partner in IFC Films and Shudder to bring the film to North American audiences. We can’t wait to invite everyone on this killer trip with the Smith family to the unwelcome island of Svälta,” said Haars.

“Get Away is a laugh out loud comedy that pours several buckets of blood onto a family’s sweet vacation in Sweden. This hilarious thrill ride will stir up laughs and scares in equal measure,” said Shudder’s Emily Gotto. “Nick Frost revs up his horror comedy expertise with the support of a strong ensemble cast and Steffen Haars’ playful directorial touch.”

Aisling Bea (This Way Up), Sebastian Croft (Heartstopper) and Maisie Ayres also star.
Nick Frost is taking it back to his horror comedy roots in the new trailer for his upcoming film, Get Away. Leaving the world of zombies behind and stepping into a supernatural and slasher vibe, the movie follows Frost as a husband and father who takes his family on a getaway to a desolate Swedish island that may have a serial killer stalking its residents. Helmed by Steffen Haars, the feature-length production is the latest to come from one of the founding members of the uber-popular Dutch comedy group known as New Kids. Joining Frost in the film’s leading cast and putting the ho-ho back in horror is a lineup that includes Aisling Bea (This Way Up), Sebastian Croft (How to Date Billy Walsh), Maisie Ayres (Criminal Record) and Eero Milonoff (Four Little Adults).

Hoping for a little family bonding and time away from the regular stresses of life, a married couple takes their two teenage kids on a vacation at the beginning of the trailer for Get Away. From the jump, their trip seems to have something ominous hanging over it as, when they tell the locals that they’ll be taking the ferry out to the island, they’re met with horrified reactions. Upon arriving at the picturesque forested island, the family begins to uncover one strange happening after the next, all while feeling watched by the local townspeople. Not willing to waste a perfectly good holiday, the family is willing to do whatever they can to stay put and not run back to civilization.

Along with starring, Frost also penned the script for Get Away and joined the team as a producer, the latter in which he’s joined by Lee Kim, John Hegeman, Adam Tertzakian, Nick Spicer and Maxime Cottray. Vince Totino, Nate Bolotin, Pip Ngo, Patrick Fischer, Jennifer Eriksson, Simon Lewis, Julia Stuart, and Laura Grange serve as executive producers. The title serves as a reunion for the leading man and director as the pair recently worked together on another comedy horror film earlier this year, Krazy House.

Nick Frost’s Background in the Genre

While we know and love the comedian and performer for his work in titles like The Boxtrolls and Snow White and the Huntsman, he’ll forever go down in history for his feature-length debut in 2004’s Shaun of the Dead. Starring opposite Simon Pegg in the zombie-filled rom-com, Frost made a huge name for himself by forever leaving his unique mark on the genre. Beyond Get Away, audiences can soon expect to see Frost in the live-action adaptation of the beloved DreamWorks Animation animated flick, How to Train Your Dragon.

Check out the trailer for Get Away above and see it on December 6.

Don't you hate it when you go on vacation, only to have everything go haywire because a serial killer is on the loose? That's the hilarious predicament British comedian Nick Frost faces in the new horror comedy "Get Away," about a family's vacation to a remote island that turns into a nightmare when they discover it's inhabited by a serial killer.

Nick Frost, best known for his frequent collaborations with actor-writer Simon Pegg in films like "Shaun of the Dead," "Hot Fuzz," and "The World's End," stars alongside Irish comedian Aisling Bea (This Way Up, Living with Yourself) and also wrote the film's screenplay. This marks Frost's first solo writing effort of his career, although he recently wrote and created the Amazon ghost-hunting comedy series "Truth Seekers" with Simon Pegg and Nat Saunders. Frost also came up with the story idea for the salsa dance comedy "Cuban Fury."

"Get Away" is directed by Dutch comedian Steffen Haars, who just worked with Nick Frost on the bizarre campy sitcom horror comedy "Krazy House," also set to be released later this year in October.

Co-starring Sebastian Croft and Maisie Ayres, "Get Away" is set to hit theaters on December 6th. Check out the official trailer above.
