The Weather Underground, a radical left-wing organization, emerged in the late 1960s as a splinter group from Students for a Democratic Society (SDS). From its inception to the present, several key figures played crucial roles in shaping the organization’s ideology, tactics, and legacy. Here, we’ll focus on some of the most prominent Weather Underground members:

Bernardine Dohrn: A founding member and leader of the Weather Underground, Dohrn was known for her fiery rhetoric and commitment to armed struggle. She was a key figure in the organization’s early years and played a significant role in planning and executing several bombings.
Bill Ayers: Another co-founder and prominent member, Ayers was a charismatic leader and strategist. He was involved in many of the Weather Underground’s most notable actions, including the bombing of the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol building.
Mark Rudd: A student activist who joined the Weather Underground in 1969, Rudd was a key figure in the organization’s early years. He was involved in several bombings and was part of the group’s leadership until he went underground in the early 1970s.
David Gilbert: A longtime member and leader, Gilbert was involved in many of the Weather Underground’s most significant actions, including the 1981 Brinks robbery in New York. He was imprisoned for 23 years before being paroled in 2002.
Kathy Boudin: A member of the Weather Underground, Boudin was involved in several actions, including the Brinks robbery. She was imprisoned for 20 years before being released in 2003. Her son, Chesa Boudin, is a prominent public defender and district attorney.
