Police said a man killed by Glendale officers in early September held two people hostage before he was shot.

On Friday, the department gave an update on the investigation into the Sept. 4 incident that happened at a home near 59th Avenue and Thunderbird Road.

The suspect killed by police on Sept. 4 was identified by investigators as 37-year-old Karl Komorowski.

It was concerned neighbors who initially contacted police for a welfare check after they saw Komorowski’s truck at the victim’s home and knew his wife had an order of protection against him.

The victim’s mother went to the house to talk to her daughter. The victim answered the door and mouthed “9-1-1” to her mother, police said.

According to police, the mother called 911. She told the dispatcher her daughter and granddaughter were in “grave danger" and that Komorowski had several guns in the house.

Police said the victim and her daughter were held against their will for several hours. They were able to escape when the suspect became distracted.

Police said Komorowski barricaded himself for several hours for several hours.

Negotiators attempted to get Komorowski to surrender for several hours. During that time, he made threats toward officers and himself, police said.

Several rounds were fired at officers while Komorowski was barricaded in the house, police said.

Komorwski was fatally shot after he came out of the home from the backdoor and raised a weapon at officers. He was carrying the gun pictured below when he was shot, according to police.
