The United States has recently been struck by two major hurricanes: Helene and Milton. Hurricane Helene caused widespread devastation across the southeastern states, with over 230 fatalities reported and damages estimated at up to $160 billion.

And on 10 October, 2024, Hurricane Milton hit Florida's west coast killing at least 12 people so far. The scale of their combined impact is affecting millions of people across multiple states, causing extensive flooding, widespread power outages, severe infrastructure damage and displacement.

On 26 September, 2024 - the same day that Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida – Israel announced that it secured a $8.7 billion aid package from the US to support its ongoing military efforts.

This caused major backlash online with people taking to social media to voice their concerns about how taxpayer money is being allocated.
