Reading mainstream media, it almost seems as if there is no fear in Germany of the Ukraine war expanding into a new pan-European war. Even the fear of nuclear weapons use seems to be a negligible factor. And then there is the 'Putin is Hitler' argument, which has particularly gained significant traction in Germany.

Fortunately, opinion polls (https://de.statista.com/statistik/daten/studie/1312216/umfrage/umfrage-deutsche-ukraine-politik/) show that a good portion of Germans are much more cautious than the mainstream might lead one to believe and wish for a de-escalation of the Ukraine war. And yet, there is still a significant portion of the population that even supports the firing of long-range missiles into Russia. Where does this come from? What drives people into an inner war mentality, especially in Germany, which has experienced and been responsible for war so often?
