12.10.2024 CP00862 - Coondoo St Garden Beds (19)

With Mareeba Shire Council receiving another $200,000 in grant money, after the $150,000 they said they had back in May 2022 'disappeared', we are documenting the current poor state of these garden beds so we can see EXACTLY what they do with this money.
These gardens around the station/Skyrail terminal are an entrance statement for the village...and what a statement they are making.
Exposed garden beds and sprinkler piping. Notice that the new 'wayfinding' sign that was knocked out in an accident months ago still hasn't been replaced? Nor has the railing been repaired to its original state - just a bit of gaffa tape and some old pipe fittings...she'll be right, it's only Kuranda.
'Fish' ferns are what you plant in your gardens when you don't want to maintain them and although very 'green' and lush, they soon take over ANY garden bed they're put in unless they are regularly maintained - which, as you can tell, they aren't and never have been.
A Deed of Agreement with Queensland Government is being developed apparently. Works to commence once the agreement is signed.
