Up until recently the footpaths around the Kuranda CBD used to get blown clean three times a week, now Mareeba Shire Council do it once a week...
It's Saturday morning now and another 4 days, Wednesday morning, before they'll come and do it again.
As if the state of our garden beds and the general unkept looking state of our village wasn't enough, having them blown clean only once a week is NOT enough Mareeba Shire Council.
The whole village is just looking uncared for and is slowly becoming a place where many of us who have been living here for decades are seriously contemplating leaving.
Why would anybody come here, spending their hard earned, on a place that is beginning to look like a murri camp in outback Northern Territory, when there are 1000's of other destinations that are much better maintained by their local councils who care?
It would do Mareeba Shire Council well to remember that unlike most of the rest of the Shire we have trees here that continuously drop leaf litter - we live in the middle of a rainforest!
Blowing the rubbish off Mareeba's streets once a week is probably enough but here in Kuranda it needs to be done at least 3 times a week like they used to do it.
It would also do the Council well to remember that Kuranda receives 100'000's of visitors every year and Mareeba doesn't.
