Level Film in Canada has revealed the first look official trailer for an indie Canadian thriller titled Seeds, marking the feature directorial debut of actress Kaniehtiio Horn. The film is premiering at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival which just kicked off this week, hence the trailer dropping now to build some buzz. It's described as a "tense thriller that weaves Kanienʼkehá꞉ka connections to the land with a cat-and-mouse game." Ziggy, a 30-something Kanienkehaka (Mohawk) woman, is offered her first gig as an online influencer, promoting for Nature's Oath, a seed and fertilizer company. When her cousin summons her back to the rez, she is warned about them and forced into a battle to save her people's legacy. Starring Mohawk Kaniehtiio Horn (who also writes and directs) with Dallas Goldtooth, Meegwun Fairbrother, Dylan Cook, and Graham Greene. Intro via TIFF: "In Seeds, Kaniehtiio Horn plays Ziggy, a Toronto-based bike courier & budding influencer. Just as she lands a new client, a seed and fertilizer company called Nature’s Oath, and starts making content for them, she’s called back to her community to house sit for her aunt. Ziggy's cousin, played by Dallas Goldtooth, imparts a few nuggets of wisdom: to be wary of the seed company, and that creepy things happen around their aunt’s house. As a shadowy figure follows her, Ziggy must protect herself, and her aunt’s cache of seeds." Seeds is written and directed by Canadian actress / filmmaker Kaniehtiio 'Tiio' Horn (Mohawk), making her feature directorial debut after one other short film previously. Produced by Jennifer Jonas and Leonard Farlinger. This is premiering at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival this month. Level Film will release the film in Canada, but no release dates are set yet - stay tuned. How does this look?
You might have seen actress Kaniehtiio Horn in FX's critically acclaimed series "Reservation Dogs," where she plays the Native American mythic spirit, the Deer Lady, or as psychic medium Destiny in the short-lived Netflix werewolf series "Hemlock Grove." Now, Horn makes her feature film debut as both writer and director with "Seeds," a new darkly comic revenge thriller.

Horn also stars as Ziggy, a thirty-something Kanienkehaka (Mohawk) woman who's a successful online influencer. But when her cousin, played by comedian Dallas Goldtooth ("Reservation Dogs"), calls her back to their hometown, Ziggy learns that her latest sponsor, "Seeds," a powerful fertilizer company, has been wreaking havoc on the reservation, making it nearly impossible for her people to farm. Now viewed as a major threat by the company, Ziggy must reconnect with her Mohawk heritage to defend her community.

The film also features legendary Canadian First Nations actor Graham Greene, known for his roles in "Dances with Wolves" and "Thunderheart."

"Seeds" just had its world premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival and is set to hit theaters on October 25th. Watch the newly released official trailer, above.
