Birthday Girl Exclaims She Needs A Man After Opening Present

The girl in this video is celebrating her birthday and opening presents while adults look on. She has one present when the video starts and seems pretty excited about it. As she opens the present she starts to say that it looks like something cool. We kind of enjoy how she is commentating her own present opening. Once she finally gets the wrapping paper off of the present she gasps out, “Thank you!”

Under the wrapping paper the girl finds a Ken doll dressed in a green t-shirt and grey shorts. As she holds up the toy doll and shows it off people while exclaiming, “I NEED a man, I NEED a man!” The girl’s outburst causes the entire crowd to bust up laughing. She starts to laugh too but we are not entirely sure she gets why everyone is cracking up. Fun fact, did you know that Ken is two years younger than Barbie? Yep. He was introduced by Mattel in 1961 as a counterpart to Barbie. Surprisingly, Ken and Barbie have had a somewhat tumultuous relationship over the years.

I did not know this but according to the Barbie mythology, Ken and Barbie met on the set of a TV commercial. Ken has a best friend, Allan Sherwood. Also, the first African-American male doll was a Barbie doll named brad who was introduced in 1968. Also, Ken has a last name, Carson. I was never into Barbies as a kid, so the backstory of Ken is a bit surprising to me. For example, Mattel released a hilarious Sugar Daddy Ken in 2009 that caused quite the bit of controversy. I, for one, would have loved to have seen that doll.
