Inflation in the U.S. came in higher than expected in September, with prices rising 0.2% for the month, putting the annual rate at 2.4%. While inflation has cooled since August, food prices surged, driving much of the increase. At the same time, jobless claims unexpectedly spiked due to Hurricane Helene and the Boeing strike.

Despite the higher inflation reading, the Fed is still expected to lower interest rates in November.
