The incident occurred just before 10 a.m. on Friday, October 4 near a business located at the 200 block of East Tropicana Avenue.

According to police, officers received reports of a male and female refusing to leave a business and making threats to employees.

Two officers arrived at the scene and came across the duo in the parking lot of the business when the man, identified as37-year-old Percy Hawkins, appeared to be agitated.

As one of the officers attempted to open his patrol car door, Hawkins charged toward him while the other officer ordered him to put the knife down.

Hawkins did not comply, causing one of the officers to discharge his duty weapon as Hawkins ran up to his door.

He then charged at the other officer while still armed with the knife, causing that officer to also discharge his duty weapon.

Hawkins continued to chase the officer until he collapsed on the ground, where he was taken into custody.

Medical personnel responded and transported him to UMC, where he was later pronounced dead.

During Tuesday's press conference, authorities released body camera and surveillance footage of the events that led up to the shooting.

On Monday, authorities identified the officers as 26-year-oldAnthony Salinas and 27-year-oldTrenzel Allen.
