"The agency will hunt you to the grave." Amazon MGM Studios has unveiled an official trailer for an action thriller film titled Canary Black, yet another of these generic, derivative action movies being dumped on video these days. This one is also skipping theaters entirely, and will be streaming on Prime Video starting in October. Does anyone care? Will anyone even watch anyway? From the director of District B13, Taken, From Paris with Love, The Gunman, Peppermint comes a new action film called Canary Black starring Kate Beckinsale. "It's more than a mission." It follows CIA operative Avery Graves as she is blackmailed by terrorists into betraying her own country to save her kidnapped husband. She must rely on her cutting-edge training and primitive fighting skills. Of course. This also stars Saffron Burrows, Ray Stevenson (RIP), Rupert Friend, Jaz Hutchins, Goran Kostic, and Ben Mills. This movie looks so exceptionally unoriginal, with the same concept from every other CIA TV show already on TV. This looks worth skipping.

Here's the official trailer (+ posters) for Pierre Morel's film Canary Black, direct from YouTube:

A top CIA operative, Avery Graves (Kate Beckinsale), is blackmailed by terrorists into betraying her own country to save her kidnapped husband. Cut off from her team, she turns to her underworld contacts to survive and help locate the coveted intelligence that the kidnappers want. Betrayed at every turn, now she must rely on her cutting-edge training & primitive fighting skills in a deadly race to deliver a ransom that could trigger a global crisis. Canary Black is directed by French action filmmaker Pierre Morel, director of the movies District B13, Taken, From Paris with Love, The Gunman, Peppermint, The Ambush, and Freelance previously. The screenplay is written by Matthew Kennedy. Produced by Jeff Elliott, Carsten H.W. Lorenz, Sébastien Raybaud, Renee Tab, Christopher Tuffin, and John Zois. Amazon MGM Studios will debut Morel's Canary Black film streaming on Prime Video starting on October 24th, 2024 this fall. Any good?
While Prime Video has one of the most popular shows in the world currently airing its second season with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, there's another project coming to the platform soon that just debuted its first look. Prime Video officially unveiled the first trailer for Canary Black, the upcoming action thriller starring Kate Beckinsale which will release on October 24. The film will follow Avery Graves (Beckinsale) as she is blackmailed by terrorists into betraying her country to save her kidnapped husband. In addition to Beckinsale in the leading role, Canary Black has also assembled a star-studded cast around her, with Saffrron Burrows (Mozart in the Jungle, The Bank Job), Rupert Friend (Hitman: Agent 47, The Death of Stalin), Ben Miles (Andor, The Crown), and the late Ray Stevenson (Ahsoka, Kill the Irishman), all set to star.

Matthew Kennedy penned the script for Canary Black, and it will be the follow-up to his screenwriting debut, Inheritance, which came in 2020 and stars Simon Pegg, Lilly Collins, Connie Nielsen, and Chace Crawford. He also wrote the script for Werewolves, the horror thriller which is due in theaters on December 6 and stars Frank Grillo. He's also been tapped to write the screenplay for A Man Called Death, but little is known about the project at this time. Pierre Morel will direct Canary Black, and he's best known for helming Taken, the 2008 action film starring Liam Neeson. More recently, Morel helmed Freelance, the action flick starring John Cena, and The Ambush.

What Else Has Kate Beckinsale Been in Recently?
Beckinsale most recently appeared alongside Charlie Day and Adrien Brody in Fool's Paradise, the slapstick comedy which is currently streaming on Hulu. Before that, she starred in Prisoner's Daughter, the 2022 drama which stars Brian Cox and is also streaming on Hulu. She also plays the lead role of Beth Burgress in Guilty Party, the Paramount+ original dark comedy series which only received one season. Prior to Guilty Party, she starred in the one-person action comedy adventure film Jolt, which features major names such as Stanley Tucci and Bobby Cannavale, which is currently streaming on Prime Video. Other than Canary Black, she'll next appear alongside Ryan Phillippe in The Patient.

Canary Black premieres in October. Check out the new trailer for the film above and watch Beckinsale in Prisoner's Daughter, now streaming on Hulu.

Movie News
Ray Stevenson
Kate Beckinsale
The trailer for Canary Black, one of Ray Stevenson's final movies, has debuted. Production ended in January 2023 prior to Stevenson unexpectedly passing away on May 21, 2023. In addition to Stevenson, Canary Black's spy thriller story features a cast that includes Kate Beckinsale, Rupert Friend, Saffron Burrows, and Ben Miles. It is directed by Pierre Morel, who previously directed the first Taken movie, which began the popular Liam Neeson-led action thriller series.

Prime Video has now released the Canary Black trailer, which shows CIA agent Avery Graves (Beckinsale) on the run and interacting with Stevenson's character, who is one of her superiors. Check out the trailer below:

The trailer sees Graves in a difficult position as she is blackmailed into delivering a classified CIA file known as Canary Black, and if she fails to do so, her husband will be killed. Graves proves to be a formidable force as she takes down numerous individuals through her training and unparalleled skills as a CIA agent. The movie releases on Prime Video on October 24.

What The Trailer Reveals About Canary Black
It Is A High-Stakes Action Thriller
Kate Beckinsale running in Canary Black
The Canary Black trailer reveals Beckinsale, Stevenson, and the rest of the cast in their respective roles and establishes the high stakes for Graves. From the Underworld movies to Van Helsing, Beckinsale is no stranger to being an action star, but she appears just as comfortable in the world of an action thriller lacking the fantastical aspect. Much like watching Stevenson in Star Wars: Ahsoka after his passing, it is bittersweet to see him in Canary Black, where he unsurprisingly plays a commanding and imposing member of the CIA leadership.

Sorina will be one of Graves' few allies while being hunted by her CIA peers as the fate of her husband and possibly the entire world hang in the balance.

As for the story, the trailer reveals that the stakes go beyond Graves and her husband, as Miles' character declares that World War III will break out if the Canary Black file falls into their enemies' hands. Burrows' character, Sorina, is seen risking her job and her own safety to help Graves acquire the file, with their friendship teased to be vital to Canary Black's story. Sorina will be one of Graves' few allies while being hunted by her CIA peers as the fate of her husband and possibly the entire world hang in the balance.

Our Take On The Canary Black Trailer
Ray Stevenson Is Canary Black's Main Appeal
Canary Black's trailer is reminiscent of many previous action thrillers, but Stevenson's casting is enough of a reason to watch it. His performance as former Jedi Baylan Skoll was one of the strongest elements of Ahsoka, as he brought a riveting gravitas to the role and the entire series. From playing Titus Pollo in HBO's prematurely canceled Rome to portraying Volstagg in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Stevenson excels in all of his roles, and this will undoubtedly continue in Canary Black.
