Shane Cuthbert is running as an indapendent candidate for the seat of Cairns in the 2024 October Queensland state election.

Interviewer (16:50)

Wait, where did the money come from in the first place? Like, you put a fair bit of money into renting the place and then renovating it and doing it all up and buying all this equipment. Where did that money come from?

Shane Cuthbert (17:01)

Well, where do you think it come from?(laughs)

Interviewer (17:04)

Was it proceeds of crime?

Shane Cuthbert (17:06)

Yes. (laughs)

Interviewer (17:08)

Right.

Shane Cuthbert (17:09)

(laughs)

Interviewer (17:09)

So this is all cash money that you've...

Shane Cuthbert (17:11)

Yeah

Shane Cuthbert (17:11)

Yeah

Interviewer (17:11)

...you've made by trafficking guns and drugs and shit.

Shane Cuthbert (17:16)

Yep.

Interviewer (17:17)

That, that cash money went into this business?

Shane Cuthbert (17:20)

Yep.

Interviewer (17:56)

Wait, hang on a second. Hang on a second. That that makes me... why, why can't your name be on it, by the way?

Shane Cuthbert (18:03)

Because I've got a criminal history and stuff, I was like, "it'll just be easier being in someone else's name." I didn't know what they knew. I didn't know, you know, like I'd been raided by a major organized crime. I thought, oh, if my name's on it, the police will say, "Oh, yep look, yes, he's associated with major organized crime. Investigate that. He's got a criminal history. He can't be a fit and proper person." And this was two years ago. And then now, I mean now, I think I think I probably have a good argument to prove that I'm a fit and proper person. I mean...

Interviewer (19:59)

Because you've put the money in from the proceeds of crime...

Interviewer (20:03)

Yeah

Interviewer (20:03)

...to get it started. But then she could turn around and just say, "No no, fuck you. This is making money. I own it. You can't prove shit. So see you later." Why would she give you the cut?

Shane Cuthbert (20:14)

Which is what makes the fucking liquor and gaming's argument void because she can.

Interviewer (20:24)

(laughs) So she would just purely give you a cut of it because... you got a verbal agreement that can't actually be enforced?

Shane Cuthbert (20:35)

Well, yes. And then, ya know, there could be possible repercussions as well.

Interviewer (20:39)

Such as?

Shane Cuthbert (20:40)

Like the place burns down and, ya know, things like that.

Interviewer (20:46)

Would she consider that if she tried to do that to you, you might do that?

Shane Cuthbert (20:50)

Yeah.

Interviewer (20:50)

Oh she does know that.

Shane Cuthbert (20:52)

I've made it quite clear.

Interviewer (20:54)

If she tries to cut you out of it, you'll burn the place down...

Shane Cuthbert (20:56)

Yep. Yeah

Interviewer (20:57)

...while she's in it.
