On Sunday, September 15, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a collision in Catawba County on Sherrills Ford Road near East Bandys Cross Road. A Catawba County Sheriff's Deputy traveling north on Sherrills Ford Road, while proceeding to a call, attempted to avoid colliding with a vehicle exiting the Dollar General parking lot. This maneuver caused the deputy to lose control of the vehicle, causing it to cross the center line, drive off the left side of the road, and strike several cars in the Goldmine Store and Grill parking lot.
The investigation indicates that speed is a contributing factor. The 2023 Catawba County Sherriff’s Department Dodge Durango did not have the vehicle's emergency equipment activated.
The officer driving the Durango, Jarrett Carl Isaac, 23, was transported by EMS to Catawba Valley Medical Center with minor injuries.
An occupant of one of the struck parked vehicles received minor injuries.

10/3/24: After consulting with the Catawba County District Attorney's Office, Deputy Jarrett Isaac was charged with careless and reckless driving. Isaac was issued a citation and will appear in court at a future date.
