Hardwired to Hear God’s Voice ~ Part 4

Text: Job 33:14-16, Hebrews 5:14

A foundation scripture we have looked at for these messages is:
Joh.10: 27 “My sheep hear My voice.”

We have been talking about hearing the voice of God, and in a broad sense, I have been using the word “hear” to mean we understand God is communicating with us in different ways.
I talked about our five senses and how God uses many way to speak to us. (sight, taste, touch, hearing, and smell) I want to look some of the ways we haven’t talked about.

Internal Seeing.
Often in scripture God ask His prophets, “What do you see.”

Have you ever read the Bible only to have a scripture “jump” out at you or maybe seem ‘“highlighted” in the moment? This is God speaking to you through what you are seeing in His word.

There is an internal, spiritual seeing that is hard to explain.
According to Webster's Dictionary: “Imagination is the ability to form a mental picture of something that is not present, especially something that has not been experienced or known.”

Isaiah 26:3 “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”
The word “mind” is not the usual Hebrew word used for the mind or thoughts.
Its root meaning is creative imagination.
“You will keep him in perfect peace, whose creative imagination is firmly fixed on You, because he trusts in You.”
Passion Translation - "Perfect, absolute peace surrounds those whose imaginations are consumed with you…”

Worry is the opposite of this – my imagination is consumed with …..

Pictures and Images
God also speaks through pictures and images that come to our mind as internal imaginations.
Mental pictures often come suddenly under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus himself heard God speak to him in this way.
John 1:48 Nathanael said to Him, ‘How do you know me?’ Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.
He didn’t see Nathanael with his physical eyes but rather with His internal sight.

When I need to pray for someone, I will pray in tongues, and that sinks my heart, my hearting, my seeing with what God wants me to pray, or say to someone. Mental impressions, sometimes pictures or images.

This is probably the main way Heatherann hears from God as she prays for people - Mental images, short video type of thing that caries a meaning.

Dreams and Night Visions
Job 33:14-16

Acts 2:17-18 In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, Your young men will see visions, Your old men will dream dreams.
Since the day of Pentecost in Acts 2, we live in a dispensation where God said He would use dreams and visions to speak to people.

Dreams can be unique without any spiritual happening.
Trying to explain a dream that makes perfect sense can be challenging.

Not every dream is from God – but when it feels like it has a spiritual edge to it, I pay attention.
For Gary personally, I feel dreams are God’s way to have me sharpen my attention on a specific aspect.
We need to measure dreams with scripture, and sometimes share them with other people that understand how the Spirit works.

There are some books I support that come from trusted prophetic people that can help unpack the meaning of a dream.
