National Gun Conference – key highlights

THIS IS A SUMMARY of the themes that came out of the first National Gun Conference held on 4 August 2024 - all in just 23 minutes.

It features former senators David Leyonhjelm and Nigel Scullion, Senator Bridget McKenzie, CEO of SSAA National, Tom Kenyon, Shooters Union Australia’s David Brown and Libertarian Party WA’s Jake McCoull.

Among the themes were the need:

1. to GET POLICE OUT of MAKING POLICY;
2. for shooting organisations to have a UNIFIED VOICE;
3. for the shooting community to run LEGAL CASES to create precedent; and
4. for shooters to GET POLITICAL.

The next gun conference in 2025 will look at how we address these. It’s a real opportunity for EVERY shooting organisation and business to back the cause we all wished was in place to do the heavy lifting.
