Work vs Nourishment: Maxick's Training Philosophy

Maxick believed it was better to nourish the muscle than to work it. Essentially it's the difference between moderate intensity/stimulating exercise vs high intensity/exhaustive exercise. All can recover from both however the older we get the latter may slow our progress more than quicken it. Others around his time had similar views.

How can we apply this nourishment perspective to our training? *Stares at the audience intensely waiting for an answer*
