The Rosary is a prayer in honor of the Blessed Virgin, consisting of one hundred and fifty Hail Marys and fifteen our Fathers accompanied by meditation on the life, passion, and glory of Christ.
The Rosary is a powerful prayer to obtain the grace of God through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin. How innumerable are the conversions, known and unknown, which had their beginning in the devotion of the Rosary.
Many indulgences are attached to the Rosary. For every Our Father and Hail Mary an indulgence of five hundred days may be gained, if said on a properly indulgenced rosary.
The Joyful Mysteries we meditate on:
1) the Annunciation
2) the Visitation
3) the Nativity
4) the Presentation
5) the Finding in the Temple

The power of the Most Holy Rosary
The Feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary was instituted primarily to commemorate the battle of Lepanto on October 7, 1571. This Christian victory broke the forces of Islam which threatened the overwhelm Europe, and it was attributed to the recitation of the Rosary. Pope Gregory XIII ordered the feast to be celebrated in certain churches and in thanksgiving for Charles VI's victory over the Saracens in Hungary in 1716. Pope Clement XI extended it to the Catholic world. Pope Leo XIII raised the rank of the feast to the 2nd class, and gave it a new Mass and Office to obtain Our Lady's intercession for the Church in the troublous modern age.
