Hepatica asiatica Nakai is a perennial plant belonging to the Ranunculaceae family. Its scientific name comes from the fact that the back of the young leaves, which roll out in a funnel shape, are covered with long white hairs, resembling the ears of a deer.[1] The flowers bloom in March and April.[2]

It is widely distributed throughout Korea, but in particular, the young deer ear (insularis Nakai) of Jeju Island and the South Sea and the island deer ear (maxima Nakai) of Ulleungdo are endemic to Korea.
