The lesson on October 6, 2024 was part 10 of “The Book of Matthew” study. Wayne quickly reviewed what we learned in the previous lesson then covered some salient points in Matthew, as expressed in a chart presented in the book “Parable Miracle and Sign” by CH Welch. Then we looked at the three disclosures in Matthew: 1) The Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5-7; 2) The Parables in Matthew 13; and 3) The prophecy and teaching of the end in Matthew 24-25. There are differences in the Sermon on the Mount and the Kingdom being set. The Kingdom set is described in Psalms 75:7 as a righteous flourish. Also in Isaiah 65:22-25 it says it “shall not hurt … in all my holy mountain”. At the times of the sermon, it is conditional! Matthew 6:10 says “Thy Kingdom come“. Matthew 5:5 says “shall inherit the earth”. Matthew 7:22 says “many shall say in that day”. Matthew 5:22 says “Danger of Gehenna”. Matthew 5:32 talks about “divorce”. It is so important to keep this teaching in context because in our calling, there is a difference and it is already accomplished by the faith of Jesus Christ. If any law could have given life, the law of Moses would have done so. However, once we learn of life is given by faith, the we are no longer under the law. We learn in our calling that God has accomplished this through the faith of Jesus Christ. In Colossians 2:9-12 KJV we learn that “9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. 10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: 11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: 12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.”

The scripture reading was from Matthew 23:34-39 KJV “34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: 35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. 36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation. 37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! 38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. 39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.”
