my first helicopter ride ever and it was over Ottawa. A small helicopter tour over Ottawa river and parliament. Have you ever taken a helicopter ride? It’s one of those things you think sounds pretty cool but maybe a bit... extra. But when you find yourself hovering over Ottawa in one of those sleek machines, let me tell you, it’s a whole new level of "wow, this is happening."

So, there I was, strapped in, headphones on (because, yes, the noise is serious), and we lifted off. The takeoff was way smoother than I expected, almost like we were just floating up into the sky. You get this immediate sense of perspective, like the whole city is a living map right below you.

Ottawa from above? Unreal. It’s the perfect mix of urban and natural beauty. You’ve got the Parliament Buildings standing tall and majestic, surrounded by all the green spaces that make the city so pretty from the ground. But seeing the Rideau Canal winding through everything, and the Ottawa River sparkling like a silver ribbon, that’s when it hits you. It’s like seeing a familiar face in a whole new light.

The pilot did these subtle tilts and turns so we could catch different angles, and there was this moment when we flew over Gatineau Park, with all its trees stretching out like an endless green carpet, and I just had to take a breath. It was like, how is this place so close to the city, but feels like a completely different world?

We circled back over downtown, and you could see little specks of people walking along Sparks Street, totally unaware of the view we had. I mean, you know you’re in the capital, but from up there, it really feels like the heart of something bigger. The buildings, the river, the bridges—it all connects in this perfect way that just doesn’t hit the same from the ground.

And then, just like that, we descended. The landing was as smooth as butter, but the whole ride left me buzzing. I felt like I’d just experienced Ottawa in a way that few people ever do. Would I do it again? 100%. It’s like getting to know an old friend all over again.
