To celebrate the release of The Boy and the Heron on digital streaming and physical copies, I have made a video of my written essay that I composed after seeing the film twice in cinemas during December 2023.

I am James Dazell. I've written two novels, four plays, several collections of poetry, and I taught scriptwriting at City Academy. Story analysis helps us become better writers. Throughout the fifteen years I've been writing, I've always been inspired by Japanese dramatic and poetic traditions. And having many Studio Ghibli books, all which I recommend, I'm definitely a Ghibli fan. There are many wonderful videos about this film and I wanted to contribute my own. I've linked in the description to this video a few of these videos which also show us the different ways this film can be interpreted and enjoyed.
