2 Corinthians - Chapter 1 Summary:

2 Corinthians chapter 1 opens with Paul offering praise to God, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort. He explains how God comforts us in our afflictions so that we can comfort others in their troubles. Paul shares his personal experiences of suffering in Asia, describing how he felt overwhelmed and despaired of life itself, but this brought him to rely not on himself but on God, who raises the dead. He expresses his gratitude for the prayers of the Corinthians and assures them that his actions and messages have been sincere. Paul then explains his recent change in travel plans, emphasizing that it was out of consideration for them and not a sign of unreliability, as his desire is always to act in faithfulness to God’s promises.
