Out Of The Ashes - Ravi Chandran

Ravi shares a biographical sermon entitled "Out of the Ashes" as we dive deep into the entire Book of Ruth.

The Book of Judges depicts a rather tumultuous time in the history of God's people. As they drifted further and further away from God, they reaped the terrible consequences of their bad choices. Just before the introduction of the book of Samuel with the installation of King Saul, who was replaced by King David, we have a tiny but very important book called Ruth.

This book shows the bigger picture of a seemingly ordinary woman named Ruth who migrated with her husband from Bethlehem to Moab during a time of famine. (In Moab, her two sons marry Moabites, and eventually her husband and her two sons die. Now a widow with nothing to live for, she is bitter and decides to return to Bethlehem to die. Of her two daughters-in-law, one named Ruth refuses to leave her and chooses to put her trust in the God of Israel and die there. In spite of all that has happened to her mother-in-law, we read of her encounter with Boaz, a legitimate kinsman redeemer (a practice of Jewish law to keep a family line from dying out), who not only marries Ruth, but brings sweetness to Naomi's seemingly bitter life, from which comes the lineage of David and Jesus.
