AR-0107: The first of a number of films I have in my collection that come from a rather unusual B-grade DTV [direct-to-video] studio known as Porchlight Entertainment, which specialised in - wait for it - family-friendly horror flicks, thrillers and children's animation, this particular subject is one of their weakest entries.

An avalanche [that could have easily been prevented] hits a ski field and buries their new ski lodge - a building that was actually built with significant safety corners cut against the architect's wishes [actually he didn't even know it was being done that badly] in order to collect on a pretty hefty insurance policy. As soon as the lodge is snowed under, the architect and the field's avalanche prevention expert [who was also prevented from doing his job by his idiot superior] team up to rescue their respective family members and anyone else still stuck in the lodge, while those survivors inside try to escape before a second avalanche comes knocking on their lodge doors...

Porchlight has made some pretty decent lightweight horror flicks but they tended to overstretch their talent when it came to the family thrillers. This film suffers from a weak script [acting is still good though], a by-the-numbers plot and some bad visual effects, rendering it a mediocre movie, but if you are a masochist, this ain't that nasty a kick and it is easy to watch in the background at house parties without causing offence.

My Grade: D+ [Disappointing]
