Entire Chicago Board of Education resigning

The entire Chicago Board of Education will resign, according to Mayor Brandon Johnson’s office, as the city prepares for its first-ever elected school board.

Voters will choose 10 members while the mayor appoints another 10 plus the board chair, creating a 21-member hybrid board.

State Rep. Will Guzzardi, who championed the idea, called it a milestone for political accountability in schools.

As early voting starts, many voters are unaware of the school board candidates, hidden deep in the ballot.

In two years, all 21 members, including the chair, will be elected, ABC 7 Chicago has reported.
