The destruction and power of a Hurricane is one of the unmatched natural disasters. Wreaking havoc across the east coast of America and in the Caribbean each year. Some areas are still recovering from historic storms. Other areas spend all year bracing for those to come. We are taking a look back at some of the worst hurricanes on record and how they have changed political and physical landscapes. We are interested in an expert who can talk about hurricanes increasing in strength, why this is happening, whether patterns are changing - duration, frequency, direction, and how technology has helped predict storms forming. We also want to explore how damage is handled, how towns and cities are coping with escalating costs of clean up and response, the cost to homeowners/renters, insurance policies from escalating costs to no coverage. On this episode of Perspective Scottie Nell Hughes is joined by Kenneth Gray, Lecturer, Criminal Justice & Homeland Security; James Mohs, Assoc Prof New Haven Uni, on taxation and finance; and David Zierden, State Climatologist Florida to discuss what was learned from Hurricane Katrina, Maria, and Harvey?
