Hear Samuel’s INSPIRING #WalkAway story: “When I was a Democrat, I didn’t do my research, and I voted with my feelings. The other gay people I met when I was young and away from home for the first time convinced me that if you’re gay, you have to vote Democrat.

I cried when Hilary lost the election. Telling you this, feels like coming out of the closet all over again. And it makes me sick to my stomach…

But in 2018, an encounter with people I knew whose family members were LEGAL immigrants from El Salvador and Cuba, started me on my #WalkAway journey. They told me about socialism and how socialism was connected to communism. And how these philosophies were connected to the Democrat Party.

SO I STARTED DOING MY HOMEWORK, and voting with facts instead of feelings. I no longer put my identity as a gay man above everything else. It was about what was best for the country—not what was best for gay people specifically.

Despite my fears, I’ve been welcomed with open arms.”

Isn’t this a great story? A common theme in #WalkAway stories is that once you become an INFORMED citizen, you tend to #WalkAway from the Democrat Party—almost like you can’t really help it; it just happens naturally.
