St. Nikodemos writes: "Masturbation, says John of the Ladder (Step 15), is fornication performed without another body, by which sin that great Anchorite fell, concerning whom the divine Anthony said, 'A great pillar has fallen'. The same John calls masturbation death and perdition (Step 15), which death is always present and borne about with us, especially during the time of our youth....
