Centuries of Design Evolution: from the Verge Fusee to a Standard Modern Watch Movement

How do mechanical watches work and how did they evolve into their current form?

In this video I compare an Adolph Schild 793 watch movement from 1966 with a verge fusee movement from the mid-1700s. Besides the keyless winding works in the AS 793 and some minor reconfiguration of the mainspring and train of wheels these two movements operate on virtually identical principals.
