Galata Tower in Turkey is one of the oldest towers in the world
The Galata Tower, also known by its current official name Galata Kulesi Museum, is a tower in Istanbul, Turkey's Beyolu neighbourhood. Galata, the neighbourhood where it is located, inspired its name.

The Galata Tower was of critical military importance and offered great surveillance from within the city walls. Prior to being transformed into a prison under Sultan Suleiman 'The Magnificent', it was also utilised as a fire warning tower under the Ottoman Empire.

Galata Tower (Galata Kulesi), regarded as one of the oldest towers in the world and one of Istanbul's emblems, was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Temporary List in 2013.
