The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe

The Raven is one of Edgar Allan Poe's most famous poems, first published in 1845. It tells the story of a grieving man who is visited by a mysterious raven one dark and stormy night. The man, mourning the loss of his beloved Lenore, asks the bird questions about life, death, and the possibility of an afterlife. The raven, however, speaks only one word: "Nevermore." As the poem progresses, the man's despair deepens, and the raven becomes a symbol of the narrator’s inescapable grief and hopelessness. The poem’s melancholy tone and rhythmic, haunting refrain make it a powerful meditation on loss, memory, and the dark corners of the human psyche.
