On the 5th of November, America will vote for its next President. The options are between Democrat Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump. However, the voting system in the world’s oldest democracy is not the easiest to understand. Instead of going with the popular voting method, a system adopted by all other democracies, the United States remains the only democracy in the world to implement and follow an Electoral College. This is a system where Americans in each state cast their ballots for representatives who become delegates in the Congress. These delegates then cast their ballot to the Presidential candidates from their respective parties, though they have the option not to. But in recent years, pushback against the Electoral college has increased, particularly from young democrats. So is the Electoral College a true representative of the democratic voting methodology?
