CPR for adults: Give 30 compressions followed by 2 breaths. This is known as “30:2”. Aim for 5 sets of 30:2 in about 2 minutes (if you are only doing compressions, aim for about 100 to 120 compressions per minute).

When to start CPR?

If you see an unconscious victim, try to wake the victim. If unsuccessful, check if the victim is breathing normally or has a pulse. If there's no pulse, the victim's heart have stopped. The American Heart Association and Emergency Cardiovascular Care recommend that you begin CPR if the person is unresponsive.

When to stop CPR?

Only stop CPR if: The casualty shows signs of life, e.g. moving, moaning, coughing or opening the eyes AND starts to breathe normally. Someone more qualified arrives and takes over. You are exhausted and cannot carry on.
