Was Kris Kringle Actually a Dutch Chimney Sweep Turned Thief?

Ever wondered how Santa Claus, Kris Kringle, and Black Pete fit into the tapestry of holiday lore?

As I was flipping through Tik-Tok, one of my favorite historians - Roy Casagranda was talking about Christmas and Santa Claus, and Coca Cola - He made a claim that Kris Kringle, a dutch person, was a chimney sweep and a thief. He could dislocate his shoulders or he may have been double jointed, to fit down the chimney and then he would take stuff from the house and shimmy back up the chimney - the chimney would be clean.

So I looked into it and surprisingly, when you research Kris Kringle, Sinterklaas and Zwarte Piet (another name for the chimney sweep), there is little to no information.
But - there is this...

The character of Zwarte Piet (Black Pete), as part of the Dutch holiday tradition celebrating Sinterklaas, has origins that are steeped both in folklore and historical conjecture. While the exact beginnings of Zwarte Piet (Black Pete) remain shrouded in mystery, there are prominent theories that trace his roots back to two distinct yet interconnected sources: Moorish slaves and chimney sweeps. Initially, the character might have been inspired by the Moors, who were of North African descent and served various roles in Europe during and after the Middle Ages, including as servants or slaves in affluent households. This theory posits that Zwarte Piet could symbolize a Moorish servant or page accompanying Saint Nicholas, reflecting the broader historical context of European interaction with Africa.

Another theory suggests that Zwarte Piet's (Black Pete) appearance might have been influenced by the chimney sweep tradition. In many European cultures, the chimney sweep has been a figure of good luck, and their soot-covered faces could easily be imagined as the origin of Zwarte Piet's (Black Pete) black face. This connection could also explain the character's role in entering homes through the chimney, a central element in the Sinterklaas celebration where presents are delivered. Over time, these elements might have blended, transforming into the iconic figure known today, where the soot from chimneys could serve as an explanation for his black face, though this does not fully account for all the character's attributes.
