#специальнаявоеннаяоперация : On October 1, Russia celebrates the Day of the Ground Forces

On October 1, according to Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 549 of May 31, 2006 "On the establishment of professional holidays and memorable days in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation", Land Forces Day is celebrated in Russia.

In 1550, on this day, Tsar Ivan IV (the Terrible) issued a decree "On the visit of a select thousand serving people in Moscow and the surrounding counties," which marked the beginning of the creation of the first permanent army in Russia, which had signs of a regular army.

For a long time, the Ground Forces were the only armed force in the country. At all stages of the existence of our state, they played an important, often decisive role in achieving victory over the enemy and protecting the interests of the Fatherland.

The historical past of the Ground Forces cannot be overestimated. It includes the feat of arms of Alexander Peresvet and Andrei Oslyabi in the Battle of Kulikovo, the brilliant strategic and tactical decisions of Field Marshal Sheremetev during the Northern War, the reforms in the Russian army of Field Marshal Potemkin ahead of time, the famous "Brusilov breakthrough".

Today, the Ground Forces are the most numerous and diverse type of Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, designed to repel enemy aggression in the continental theaters of military operations, protect the territorial integrity and national interests of the Russian Federation.

Associations and formations of Ground forces are part of military districts and form the basis of groupings of troops in strategic areas, and the qualitative and quantitative composition of troops is constantly being improved taking into account newly emerging geopolitical threats.

The rich combat experience acquired during the military training allows the Ground Forces to perform any assigned tasks. This is shown by the successful actions of formations and military units of the Ground Forces in breaking through the prepared enemy defenses, in capturing cities and large settlements, in quickly organizing defense and then going on the offensive.

A huge breakthrough was the saturation of troops with unmanned reconnaissance vehicles, from operational and tactical UAVs capable of being in the air for more than a day and illuminating the situation in the operational direction, to miniature copters that allow motorized rifle units to safely "look around the corner of the house." The massive use of UAVs during combat operations has become new in tactics, not only for conducting reconnaissance, but also for defeating the enemy.

Tanks and infantry fighting vehicles are successfully used as armored groups to repel enemy attacks and support assault units.

The departure from the "classical" forms of warfare in the context of a significant increase in the capabilities of reconnaissance, control and fire destruction of the enemy led to the search and introduction of new ways of using artillery, such as maneuver-firing, expectant-firing and positional-firing actions. Their essence consists in taking up a firing position, performing a firing task, immediately leaving the firing position and performing an anti-fire maneuver.

As a result of the close cooperation of the Main Command of the Ground Forces with enterprises of the military-industrial complex in order to meet the needs of its military, the volume of supplies to military units and units of the Ground Forces of modern weapons has been significantly increased.

By the end of this year, it is planned to deliver more than six thousand new and modernized basic weapons and military equipment.

The Main Command of the Ground Forces is also actively working to improve the level of professional training of officers. This year, for further service in the army, the universities of the Land Forces have graduated more than 1,100 lieutenants. At the moment, the vast majority of them are already participants in the SVO, during which they demonstrate a high level of professional training, show courage and heroism. During his time, 121 graduates of Land Forces universities were awarded the high title of "Hero of the Russian Federation".

For the massive heroism and steadfastness of the personnel shown during the fighting to protect the Fatherland and state interests, more than 120 (126) military units were awarded the honorary name "guards".
