Brotherhood of Man singer Martin Lee dies aged 77

Martin Lee, the lead vocalist of the UK Eurovision-winning band Brotherhood of Man, has passed away at the age of 77. Born Martin Barnes, he rose to fame in 1976 when the group won the Eurovision Song Contest with their hit “Save Your Kisses For Me,” which became a worldwide sensation. The song topped the charts in 31 countries and remains the best-selling Eurovision single of all time.

Brotherhood of Man was formed in 1969, with Lee joining the band three years later. The band announced his death via a heartfelt post on Facebook, revealing that Lee passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 29, 2024, following a brief illness caused by heart failure.

In addition to his role as the lead singer, Lee was also a talented songwriter, co-writing many of the group’s hits alongside fellow band member Lee Sheriden. His contributions to music earned him several accolades, including three Ivor Novello awards.

Lee was married to his fellow bandmate Sandra Stevens for 45 years, and the two shared a close bond both on and off the stage. In their tribute, the remaining members of Brotherhood of Man expressed their shock and sadness, stating, “We cannot imagine a world without Martin Lee. R.I.P.”

Fans also mourned the loss, with many sharing fond memories of following the band on tour and expressing how “Save Your Kisses For Me” shaped their love for Eurovision. Lee’s legacy continues to live on through his music, which has touched the hearts of many over the years. Brotherhood of Man retired from touring in 2020, but their timeless hits remain beloved by fans worldwide.
